In July of 2017 we had to make the very painful decision to put our beloved dog Muskoka down due to complications from cancer. She was just 8 years old and had just received a clean bill of health from our regular Veterinarian only 7 weeks earlier. How does that happen?
Like many pet owners, we completely spoiled our Muskoka with love, treats, kisses, hugs, you name it, we smothered her with complete affection and gave her all the attention she could ever hope for.
In return, she gave us the most amazing unconditional love and affection right back and would change our lives forever.
Devastated by the loss, we wanted to do something that would reflect how she was treated and loved, hence we created the Muskoka Lennox Foundation in her honour.
Our goal was to try and help those dogs that spend much of their lives in foster care or in animal rescue shelters with no forever families to love them like they should be.
In 2017 we started our very first toy and treat drive with hopes of bringing a little Christmas cheer to the many dogs that would spend Christmas alone.
We called it TOYS4PAWS and we received the most amazing support from our friends, family and colleagues receiving toys and treats that would help us deliver Christmas to over 100 dogs in 7 different shelters.
We even received donations from as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada and Vancouver, BC. It was the most amazing feeling, stopping by those shelters and seeing the reaction from staff that absolutely loved the act of kindness.
Here we were, just a few months after suffering a devastating loss, giving back to dogs we’ve never met and having this tremendous feeling of love knowing were bringing them joy and hope.
Our goal through all of this is to reach more shelters and more dogs every year at Christmas, and given we’ve set no limits on how big this thing might become, we’re prepared to see just how big we can make it.
